Lecturer of Sociology

The American University of Bahrain (AUBH) invites applications for a part time lecturer position in the area of Sociology beginning Spring Semester 2023. Candidates are expected to hold a master’s degree in Sociology obtained from a reputable university. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated excellent skills in teaching at the undergraduate level in both face-to-face and online modes. Successful candidates will be expected to teach Introduction to Sociology course. As instruction is in the English Language, the successful candidate must have excellent English-language communication skills.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

• Teaching selected course(s)
• Preparing promptly course related documentation as required (accreditation, audit, )
• Contributing to the development of the curriculum in selected areas
• Attending division meetings
• Promoting collegiality amongst faculty

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience required:

• Master’s in Sociology
• Minimum 2 years of teaching experience in higher education institutions in the area of Sociology, including face-to-face and online settings
• Experience working in international, multicultural settings
• Experience in dealing with students of multiple cultural backgrounds

Skills and Competencies required:

• Ability to communicate new ideas, information and needs through appropriate communication methods and behaviors with faculty, staff, and students
• Careful attention to detail and accuracy, strong organizational skills, proactively establish priorities and meet deadlines, and solve problems independently
• Ability to use such tools as Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and internet search tools
• Knowledge of Learning Management Systems, Canvas a distinct advantage
• Excellent oral and written English skills
